Founded in memory of Lorrie and Larry Fielding, Pawlouse Animal Shelter,

Lorrie and Larry were born in 1910 in Pullman, WA. They met at Washington State University and were married in June 1935. They settled in their hometown and began their life-long pursuit of furthering the care of dogs and cats.

The Fielding’s owned four cats and three dogs and loved to be surrounded by their pets. They firmly believed that animals were an integral part of the family and encouraged their family and friends to adopt. Their love of animals led them to want to develop a no-kill animal shelter so no animals would ever be killed because they could not find a good home.

While this goal of having a local no-kill animal shelter was never realized in their lifetime, they left the bulk of their estate in 1998 to a local shelter with the proviso that it would become a no-kill shelter. Thus Pawlouse Animal Shelter was created.

The original shelter has been heavily renovated and expanded to house the influx of animals over the last few years. We pride ourselves on our play area for children to interact with the animals and for them to learn the value of their pets. We hope to expand throughout the west coast in order to have more no-kill animal shelters available and save more future pets.

This shelter and our vision of a no-kill shelter would not have been possible if not for the generous donation of the Fielding’s. Their appreciation for animals and their roles in our lives have helped many animals who otherwise would not have been given a chance. The animals and Pawlouse Animal Shelter are very grateful for their compassion.
